Monte di Cocci

representing il monteThe garbage mound is a book, whose leaves can be turned as you peel back one layer after the other.

As humans we pay little attention to what we throw away, and so future observers are afforded more objective evidence of who we are, what we do. We don’t write heroic testimonies to our greatness on our rubbish, no affidavits relaying our intentions.

This heap of amphorae is eerily similar in appearance to the landfill outside of St. Louis in Illinois. What will that tell future civilizations?

Looking forward to a guided neighborhood walk of Testaccio this Tuesday led by myself and two other students. More drawings/diagrams to come.
